Himalayan Pink Salt Trick Recipe for Weight Loss: Real Results

December 2025 Update: 4+ Months Later — What I’ve Actually Learned

Hey everyone — Emma here with a real-time update since I first published this back in October. It’s now mid-December, which means I’ve been doing this pink salt morning ritual (on and off) for over 4 months now. So what’s changed? What have I learned? And most importantly — am I still doing it?

What’s Happened Since October

The honest truth: I’m still drinking the pink salt mixture about 4-5 mornings per week. Not religiously like during my initial 30-day test, but consistently enough that it’s become a flexible part of my routine rather than a rigid rule.

My weight: Completely stable. I’m within 2-3 pounds of where I was at the end of my October test, which fluctuates normally based on water retention, hormones, stress, carb intake, and literally everything else that affects water weight. The drink itself hasn’t caused any additional weight loss beyond that initial water weight adjustment in the first two weeks. Zero. Zip. Nada.

What HAS stuck around: The improved morning energy and reduced bloating benefits have genuinely persisted. I still feel more alert and less puffy on mornings when I drink it versus mornings when I skip it. This tells me the hydration + electrolyte combo really does make a measurable difference in how I feel, even if it’s not translating to fat loss.

What’s Changed in My Approach

I’ve gotten more flexible: Some mornings I just drink plain lemon water without the salt. Some mornings I skip the lemon and just do salt water. Some mornings — especially if I’m running late or just don’t feel like it — I drink regular water and move on with my life. The world doesn’t end. My health doesn’t collapse. It’s fine.

I’ve stopped weighing myself weekly: This has been genuinely liberating. I weigh maybe once a month now, if that, and focus way more on how I feel, how my clothes fit, and my overall energy levels. Best decision I’ve made in this whole journey.

I’ve experimented more with timing: I’ve tried drinking it before evening workouts a few times (with slightly more salt for the extra sodium loss from sweating), and honestly, it does seem to help with endurance. Could be placebo. Could be better hydration. Either way, I’ll take it.

The Winter Hydration Factor Nobody Talks About

Here’s something I’ve noticed now that we’re in colder weather: I naturally drink less water in winter because I’m not as thirsty, and hot drinks (coffee, tea) become way more appealing than cold water. The morning salt ritual has actually helped me maintain better baseline hydration during these cold months when I’d normally slack off.

  1. FINALLY an article that doesn’t lie to me!! I’m so tired of influencers promising miracles. This was long but worth the read—especially the safety warnings. I have high blood pressure and almost tried this before reading. You might have saved me a trip to the ER, so thank you. I sent this to my friend who keeps asking if she should do the salt water thing. The 30-day test results are super helpful because it shows what ACTUALLY happened, not some made-up transformation. More articles like this please!

    • Oh wow, thank you so much for this comment—honestly made my whole day! And I’m SO relieved you read the safety section before trying it. That’s literally why I spent so much time on those warnings, even though I knew it would make the article ridiculously long.

The fact that you have high blood pressure and almost tried this genuinely worries me, because there are SO many articles and TikToks out there promoting this without a single warning. Like, just “drink this miracle water!” with zero mention that it could seriously harm people with conditions like yours. It’s infuriating.

I’m really grateful you sent it to your friend too—that’s exactly what I hoped people would do. Share the realistic info instead of just the hype. Your friend is lucky to have someone who actually fact-checks things instead of just forwarding the trend blindly.

And yeah, the 30-day test was… humbling? I went in wanting to tell people it was amazing or complete garbage, and instead got “it’s fine, just not magic” which is the least dramatic answer possible 😅 But that’s what actually happened, so that’s what I wrote.

Thank you for appreciating the honesty—it means a lot because writing articles that burst people’s wellness bubbles doesn’t always make you popular. But if it keeps even one person with high blood pressure from accidentally spiking their numbers, it’s worth every word.

Stay safe, stay hydrated (with regular water!), and keep being the kind of person who actually reads the safety sections. We need more of that. ❤️

  2. Honestly? I came here expecting another BS article hyping up this trend, but I was pleasantly surprised. The author actually admits the drink didn’t make them lose weight—like, straight up says it. That’s refreshing. The safety section is thorough (maybe TOO thorough, but I get it). I tried it for a week and yeah, I feel less bloated in the mornings. Would I call it a ‘weight loss trick’? No. But it’s a nice morning habit. Just wish the article was shorter—I scrolled forever.

    • Ha! I appreciate your honesty about the length—you’re 100% right, I am VERY aware it’s basically a novella 😅 I struggle with the “less is more” concept when I’m trying to cover safety stuff thoroughly. My editor keeps telling me to cut it down, and I keep adding paragraphs. It’s a problem.

But I’m really glad you gave it a fair shot despite your (very justified) skepticism! The fact that you tried it for a week and noticed the less bloated thing is actually the most common real result I hear from people. Not dramatic weight loss, just… less puffy in the mornings. Which is still useful! Just not what TikTok promised, obviously.

Your summary is perfect: “Nice morning habit, not a weight loss trick.” That’s literally what I should’ve titled it instead of trying to rank for the viral search term everyone’s looking for. Maybe I’ll add a subtitle: “Spoiler: It Won’t Make You Lose Weight But Your Pants Might Fit Better”

Thanks for reading through the whole scroll-fest and for being honest about what actually happened when you tried it. That real-world feedback is way more valuable than any “I lost 20 pounds in a week!” nonsense.

(And yeah, next article I’ll try to be more concise. Try being the key word here. No promises.)

  3. “This is THE most thorough and honest article I’ve read about this trend!”

I’ve been seeing this pink salt thing everywhere and was so close to trying it, but something made me want to research first. I’m SO glad I found your article before I started. I have kidney issues and had no idea extra sodium could be dangerous for me—none of the TikToks mention that!

Your 30-day test results are exactly what I needed to see. The fact that you openly admit you only lost 2.2 lbs (probably water weight) instead of making up some dramatic transformation is incredibly refreshing. I love that you broke down what actually changed vs what didn’t. The energy improvement and reduced bloating sound realistic and helpful.

I’m sharing this with my entire family, especially my mom who has high blood pressure. The safety section alone is worth its weight in gold. Thank you for doing the actual work of testing this and being brutally honest about the results. This is journalism, not influencer marketing disguised as health advice.

    Bookmarked for future reference! 🙏

    • Thank you so much for this incredibly kind comment—honestly, it made my entire week! The fact that you have kidney issues and almost tried this without knowing the risks is EXACTLY why I spent so much time (probably too much time, let’s be real) on that safety section. That section alone took me days to research and write because I kept finding more contraindications and thinking “people need to know this.”

I’m genuinely relieved you found it before trying it. And I’m even more grateful you’re sharing it with your family, especially your mom with high blood pressure. That’s exactly the kind of information-sharing that actually helps people instead of just spreading viral hype.

The 2.2 lbs thing was… humbling? I really wanted to have more dramatic results to report, but then I remembered my job is to tell the truth, not sell a fantasy. So yeah, water weight and better hydration habits—not exactly Instagram-worthy, but it’s what actually happened.

Thank you for appreciating the honesty. Comments like yours remind me why I do this work instead of just posting pretty pictures with exaggerated claims. Stay safe, take care of those kidneys, and keep being the kind of person who actually researches before trying viral trends. We need more of that! ❤️

  4. Thank you so much! omg FINALLY someone being real about this
okay so i’ve been doing this salt water thing for like 6 weeks? maybe 7? i honestly lost count lol. found it on tiktok (shocker) and dove in without researching first like an idiot. wish i’d found your article before i started because WOW that safety section…
anyway my experience is pretty much exactly what you described:
    stuff that actually happened:

i do feel less like a zombie in the mornings? could be placebo tho, who knows
way less bloated which is nice bc my jeans fit better now
drinking SO much more water during the day now. like i actually remember to hydrate instead of realizing at 3pm i’ve only had coffee
weight wise? literally nothing dramatic. maybe down 3 lbs but that could also be bc i stopped eating ice cream every night (unrelated lol)

    random observations:
the first week i kept forgetting to measure and just dumped salt in. bad idea. one morning i used way too much and felt gross all day. learn from my mistakes people
also idk if this is weird but i actually like the taste now?? my boyfriend thinks i’m insane but it’s just… normal to me at this point
question: does anyone else get super thirsty like an hour after drinking it? or is that just me? i end up chugging water mid-morning which i guess is good but still curious
the part about pre-measuring is GENIUS btw. started doing that last week and mornings are so much easier now
honestly the best part of your article is you admitting it didn’t cause dramatic weight loss. like thank you for not lying to get clicks?? the internet needs more of that. sent this to my sister who keeps asking me if she should try it (she has kidney issues so BIG NOPE after reading your warnings)

    • OMG thank you for this comment!! 😊
okay first of all – “dove in without researching first like an idiot” is SUCH a mood and honestly describes like 90% of how i approach viral trends too lmao. we’re all out here just winging it
about the thirsty thing: YES!! i totally get that too and honestly thought it was just me being weird. like an hour later i’m suddenly parched? i think it might be your body’s way of saying “hey we just got a bunch of sodium, let’s balance this out” but idk i’m not a scientist. the good news is you’re right – it basically forces you to hydrate more which is probably a good thing even if it’s annoying
the fact that you like the taste now honestly cracks me up (in a good way). i’m the same way and my husband gives me the EXACT same look your boyfriend probably gives you 😂 like “why are you willingly drinking salty lemon water” but our taste buds just adapted i guess??
about the too-much-salt day: omg i feel you so hard on this. i did the same thing week 2 and felt like i’d been hit by a truck. just gross and off all day. that’s literally why i got so intense about the measuring spoons in the article bc i KNEW other people would make the same mistake
really glad you sent this to your sister before she tried it with kidney issues – that’s exactly what i was hoping people would do!! those safety warnings took forever to write and research but if they stop even one person from accidentally making themselves sick it’s worth it
also the ice cream thing made me laugh bc same. i keep telling myself the salt water is helping but really i just… also stopped stress-eating pints of ben & jerrys at 10pm? 😅 turns out that makes a difference who knew
thanks for taking time to share your real experience!! comments like this are honestly the best part of writing these articles. way more valuable than the 50th person saying “great post!” with no details
keep doing what’s working for you and stay safe! 💕
